The Wine
The 2018 Blue Beret Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of dense blackberry, plum and cassis followed by undertones of rose petals and forest floor. The wine has a dense, soft tannin structure with flavors of blackberry, black currant, peat, and dark chocolate leading to a long balanced full-flavored finish.
Vintage
The 2018 vintage was a bountiful vintage marked by cool, consistent temperatures and a timely rainfall for bud break in March and April. Harvest began on September tenth, and the grapes were of the highest quality with lower alcohol and high acidity.
Vineyard
This wine comes from grapes grown in our Yountville vineyard, with Rutherford grapes rounding out the blend. On 63 acres, located on the valley floor, our Yountville vineyard cultivates classic Bordeaux varieties and is home to a 25-acre plot (planted in 1959) with the second oldest Cabernet vines in the Napa Valley. In 2000, in the land surrounding our Rutherford winery, we planted 17.3 acres of Cabernet along with an additional acre of Petit Verdot to blend with Cabernet Sauvignon. We farm our vineyards naturally, using the principles of regenerative agriculture, and they are certified organic.
