The Wine

On the nose this wine exhibits a tremendously rich bouquet of dark berries. Blackberry and blueberry are prevalent, as well as ripe boysenberry. The vibrant berry aromas are carried by undertones of vanilla bean, sweet cinnamon and sugarcane with a hint of cardamom in the background. On the palate, you will enjoy dense berry fruit, followed by an abundance of silky tannins that uphold the aromatic complexity of the Petite Sirah with great tension and complexity. This wine envelopes every taste bud with its complex and deeply rich aromatics which follow through into the aftertaste.

Vintage

The growing season started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring, triggering early bud break. Colder temperatures in May slowed grape development which, coupled with the fourth year of drought, resulted in a smaller crop in 2015. The harvest was one of our earliest in memory with the berries smaller than usual but packed with flavor and color.

Vineyard

The grapes for this wine were grown at Miljenko’s Vineyard, a 34-acre parcel of land north of Calistoga overlooked by Miljenko “Mike” Grgich’s home. This sunny and well-drained hillside is the perfect site to grow intensely flavored Petite Sirah. We farm naturally, without artificial pesticides or herbicides, and the grapes are certified organic.
