Author George Taber joins Violet Grgich at the Smithsonian display of the wine crafted by Mike Grgich.
Violet Grgich represented her father, Miljenko “Mike” Grgich, at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History on May 16-17 in Washington, DC.
On May 16 she joined Paula Johnson, Curator of the museum for its After House presentation that also included Stephen Spurrier, author George Taber, Warren Winiarski, Bo Barrett from Chateau Montelena, and Ted Baseler, president and CEO of Ste. Michelle, owners of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars for a conversation on stage before a tasting that celebrated the 40th anniversary of that famous wine tasting.
The next night Violet returned to the stage at Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History for its 2016 Winemaker’s dinner celebrating the Judgment of Paris. Paula Johnson, Curator for the museum, introduced Violet wearing Mike’s 90th birthday beret in honor of her father. Violet borrowed the beret while she spoke, which was a big hit with the audience
While Mike could not travel to Washington DC, Violet read a short note from Mike, thanking the Smithsonian and everyone there for remembering this key event in the evolution of American wine.
